<p>This is an interview with an old friend - Zainol Che Salleh; an artist, designer, singer and dancer who spent most of his life in the UK but the pull of Malay traditional songs was so great that he made his way home after 25 years.  I have published it before but do listen again to Zai&#8217;s melodious voice and his love for the ghazal.

The aroma of the curve cut tobacco, war time stories, tokohoon plasters and crossword puzzles always remind me of Pak.  A kind, generous man until he died.  Today I remember Pak and I remember the song Sri Mersing that he wanted us to buy from the record shop down the road, but we never did.
